Ten years ago I had to move my tank from MN to NM. I chose to leave the tank itself behind and just move the fish, 2 bubble eye fantails, 1 black moor(all 4-6 in long), and 2 large (1 4in, 1 3&1/2iin) freshwater clams. What I did was buy a new* 30 gal coleman cooler with spout in bottom. I scrubbed it thouroghly with a salt and lemon juice solution, rinsed it several times, and set it outside for 3 days in the heat of summer to let the sun bleach and steralize it. While I was waiting for the sun to do it's part I did a 50% water change with gravel vac, stirring up the rock to get as much "stuff" out as possible. I drilled a hole in the top of the cooler to run the air hose through. Two days before we left I put the gravel and 1/2 of the tank water into the cooler with an airstone so the water didn't get funky, I cut a piece of fiberous kitchen scrubber(boiled to steralize) to fit in the drainage spout hole from the inside to prevent gravel from getting lodged in there. The day before we left I added the fish and clams as well as fresh water to within 4 in of top of cooler. We used a tire pump that you plug into the cig lighter, attached tubing, ran tubing through hole in top, put a 12 in bubble stone in the bottom. When we stopped to eat or stretch our legs we plugged in the pump for 20-30 min. The cooler rode in the trunk. Everybody arrived in NM fine and healthy, we took 1 week to drive down and the fish never showed any signs of stress. It was harder to find a suitable tank than I thought it would be so they lived in the cooler for over a year. Dorothy
